The big-name platforms get all the attention. These are the ones actually filling the gaps in your AI search stack.

Every "best AI SEO tools" list looks the same. Most lists focus on content optimization and rank tracking. Almost none cover the stuff that actually moves the needle in AI search: figuring out which sources LLMs are citing, finding where your brand is missing from those sources, and getting mentioned in them.

This post covers the tools that help you close that gap. Some track visibility, some find the holes, some help you fill them.

We're skipping on-site content optimization tools — you've seen those lists. Surfer, Frase, Clearscope. They're good. If you’re reading this, you probably already have one.

1. Otterly.AI

What it does: Tracks brand mentions and citations across six AI platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, and Copilot. Competitive benchmarking reports show exactly who's appearing instead of you.

Why it's underrated: Most teams are still checking AI visibility manually by running prompts one at a time and screenshotting. Otterly automates that across six platforms at once, with week-over-week trend data most manual processes miss.

Best for: Teams that want a dedicated AI visibility tracker without committing to a full SEO suite.

Price: From $29/mo (Lite). Standard plan at $189/mo for 100 tracked prompts. Free trial available.

2. Scrunch

What it does: Monitors brand presence across eight AI platforms (including Claude and Meta AI) and goes deep on citation source analysis showing which specific URLs are being cited, with influence scoring and the ability to slice data by persona, funnel stage, topic, and platform.

Why it's underrated: Most visibility trackers tell you if you're showing up. Scrunch tells you why — which cited sources are driving your visibility (or your competitor's), and how citation patterns shift over time. That's the layer that turns monitoring into strategy.

Best for: Teams that want to connect AI visibility data to citation-level insights and content decisions.

Price: From $83/mo (Explorer, billed annually). Growth plan at $417/mo. 7-day free trial available.

3. AthenaHQ

What it does: Built for generative engine optimization from the ground up. Founded by a former Google Search product manager who also worked on DeepMind's generative media team. Tracks brand visibility across AI platforms with sentiment analysis, gap detection, and AI-generated content recommendations.

Why it's underrated: One of the few tools designed AI-first rather than bolted onto an existing SEO platform. The Google Search and DeepMind pedigree means the team understands how these models work under the hood and not just what they output.

Best for: Mid-market and enterprise brands that want monitoring, auditing, and optimization in one platform.

Price: From $295/mo (Self-serve). Enterprise pricing available. No free trial.

4. Conductor

What it does: Enterprise SEO platform that unifies AI visibility data with traditional metrics from Google Search Console and Adobe Analytics. Also launched an app in ChatGPT via its MCP server so you can pull real-time AI visibility data directly inside ChatGPT.

Why it's underrated: Conductor doesn't usually make "AI SEO tools" lists because it's known as a traditional SEO platform. But its AI visibility layer is genuinely strong, and the ChatGPT app integration means your team can query AI search data without leaving the tool they're already using.

Best for: Large teams already running enterprise SEO programs that want AI visibility layered in — not siloed.

Price: Custom (enterprise). Contact for pricing.

5. Ahrefs Brand Radar

What it does: Compares your brand's mention footprint against competitors across the web showing where other brands in your category are getting talked about and you're not. Tracks mentions across web, YouTube, Reddit, and AI platforms.

Why it's underrated: Most teams use Ahrefs for backlinks and keywords, not for this. But Brand Radar is arguably the most useful Ahrefs tool for AI search right now because it maps the gap between your domain authority and your actual brand mention breadth, which is the gap that matters most.

Best for: Any SEO team already paying for Ahrefs that hasn't explored Brand Radar yet. (Seriously, go look.)

Price: Included with Ahrefs subscriptions. Also available standalone, but check ahrefs.com/brand-radar for current plans.

6. Bing Webmaster Tools

What it does: Submit your sitemap, monitor indexing, and track how Bing surfaces your content. Recently added AI visibility tracking directly into the webmaster dashboard.

Why it's underrated: ChatGPT relies heavily on Bing for its web searches. That means your Bing visibility directly affects how you show up in ChatGPT answers, and most SEO teams haven't touched their Bing Webmaster Tools account in years, if they have one at all. Five minutes of setup could surface blind spots you didn't know existed.

Best for: Literally everyone. It's free. If you care about showing up in ChatGPT, you should be monitoring Bing.

Price: Free.

7. Google search Console

What it does: Doesn't track AI visibility directly but it shows you the downstream effects. Impressions holding steady while clicks decline? That's the AI Overview tax, and GSC is where you spot it.

Why it's underrated: In the AI SEO context, GSC is underrated because most teams read it as a traditional SEO dashboard. But the impressions-up-clicks-down pattern is one of the clearest signals that AI Overviews are absorbing your traffic on specific queries, and those queries are exactly where citation-layer work matters most.

Best for: Identifying which of your keywords are being impacted by AI Overviews, so you know where to prioritize offsite mention-building.

Price: Free.

8. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

What it does: Tracks brand mentions, sentiment, and share of voice across LLMs. Comes bundled with Semrush One which connects AI visibility data with your existing keyword, backlink, and content performance.

Why it's underrated: If you're already a Semrush user, you might already have access to this and not be using it. The AI visibility layer isn't a separate product, it's built into the platform most SEO teams are already paying for. No new subscription, no new login.

Best for: Existing Semrush users who want to add AI visibility tracking without adding another tool to the stack.

Price: Included with Semrush One (plans vary). No additional charge.

9. Ranking Raccoon

What it does: A marketplace for publisher outreach. Add your site, browse verified publishers in your niche, and chat directly with site owners to negotiate mentions. No cold pitching required.

Why it's underrated: This is where the list shifts from measurement to action. Every other tool here helps you see the problem, but Ranking Raccoon helps you fix it by making publisher outreach dramatically easier. They report a 71% reply rate within a week and 35% conversion to published links, compared to ~5% for cold email.

Best for: Teams doing DIY outreach for brand mentions and backlinks who want better response rates without hiring an agency.

Price: Free trial. Pro plan at $25/mo.

10. Qwoted

What it does: A journalist sourcing platform where reporters request expert quotes and sources. Respond to relevant queries, and your expertise gets placed in published editorial content.

Why it's underrated: Getting quoted in trade publications and industry roundups earns you mentions in exactly the kind of articles LLMs tend to cite. It's a free pipeline to the citation layer, but it requires fast response times and consistent effort, which is why most teams never build the habit.

Best for: Brands with subject matter experts who can respond quickly to journalist requests — especially in B2B.

Price: Free for sources.

Bonus: Manual Prompt Auditing

What it does: This is not exactly a tool, but a process. Run your buyers' actual questions through ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview. Screenshot the answers. Look at the sources cited. If your brand isn't mentioned in them, you've found your gap.

Why it's underrated: It’s manual work, tedious and unsexy — but if you dedicate yourself to it, you’ll land placements and start seeing an improvement in your AI visibility. We know because it’s the model we built Noble off of.

Best for: Everyone! Especially teams that haven't started investing in AI visibility tools yet and want to understand the problem before spending money.

Price: Free. We have a spreadsheet template and a 7-step guide for tracking what you find.

How Noble Ties It All Together

The tools above cover individual pieces of your AI SEO stack: visibility tracking, citation gap analysis, offsite mentions, ongoing monitoring. Each does its job well. But stitching them together takes time most teams don't have.

Noble brings them into one platform:

  • Identifies the search prompts and sources where your brand isn't showing up
  • Automates outreach to relevant publishers on your behalf
  • Negotiates payment terms and content placement
  • Gives you final approval on everything before it goes live
  • Handles payment and confirms publication
  • Tracks all your brand mentions in a single dashboard

No need to manage 20+ manual steps per mention.

No need to negotiate with publishers yourself.

No need to hire more people to do the work.
